Market Research Analysis (Music Video)

This is the video for Boston by Moose Blood. It is an entirely performance video, with no narrative. Whilst I think that it is a good performance video, with a lot of good shots and a good setting, it is very boring to watch. If you are only watching a band, the video just seems like it drags and you stop paying attention to the video so much. This is a view shared by most people that have watched this video, so it is important not to just have an entirely performance-based video, so as to keep the audience interested.

On the flip side, Waiting All Night by Rudimental is an entirely conceptual video, with no performance. This only works when there is a really good narrative, such as this song, but if the narrative is poor, then it isn't very interesting to watch and you stop watching it.

Response to Brief (Meeting Minutes)

Discussed the actors/band to be used in the video. We’re using my band. Discussed the genre of a song, and ended up deciding on either pop punk or alternative. Came out with ideas from those genres, two bands that stood out were Moose Blood and American Football. Due to American Football being a more well-known band and members of the band that are performing in the video being able to play the song, we decided to use American Football. The song choice was ‘Never Meant’.

First Try at Lip Sync

This task was a very useful one to complete. It has taught me a lot about the dos and don'ts of lip syncing in a music video. Firstly, it is important to actually sing rather than just mouth the words otherwise it is quite clear that it is lip synced, and makes the video seem less real. As well as this, you need to add the music to the video afterwards, otherwise the music can be lo-fi and hard to hear. Throughout the video, I keep looking down at the lyrics, and at the end I forget how long to hold a note for, this shows that you need to learn the lyrics prior to recording.
